Mark Rix

Mark Rix graduated from Iowa State University in 1973 and went to work for Wilson Foods in Oklahoma City for 6 years.

Mark then joined Ralston Purina in 1979 as a salesman in Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa for the next 5 years. He changed positions in 1984 and became a Swine Consultant in Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota and Nebraska. He then moved to North Carolina as Swine Business Manager in 1988 for owned and contracted swine operations. Mark developed multiple software programs used by the swine business group.

Mark moved to Fremont, Nebraska in 1994 and helped build Swine Management Services from the ground up into a full-line management company that built 40 sow farms and managed 80,000 sows.

Ron Ketchem and Mark purchased the consulting and intellectual property side of Swine Management Services from Purina Mills in 2002, and they have built it into a leading independent swine consulting company. Mark has developed multiple benchmarking and analytical programs that SMS uses today.

Mark married Carolyn in 1976 and they have a son and a daughter.
